Proctors are required in the distance education process used by UF EDGE to guarantee the integrity of quizzes and examinations. This page will help the student with selecting a proctor.
When an exam is given in class a copy will be collected at the end of the testing period by UFEDGE staff. Exams are collected after on campus students take the exam, then the exam is scanned and made available on UF EDGE web site with a password to reach the exams. Shortly after this an e-mail is sent to the proctor with exam information and the rules for taking the exam; open book or not, notes allowed or not, etc.
For exams given on campus prior to 3:00 p.m. EST they will be sent to the proctor that same day. For those exams given after 3:00 p.m. EST they will not be sent to the proctor until 9:00 a.m. EST the next day. The reason for the delay is to allow for clarification of any questions asked on the exam and for minor editing changes the professor might make.
E-mails sent to proctors about exams will have a subject heading of, "University of Florida Exam in EEL6543 w/ Dr. John Doe", for example. Your name will not appear on the email as this is a single generic email sent to every proctor of students taking the course. So please confirm that a your proctor is aware of the course number and instructor's name of the course being taken so he or she does not delete the e-mail.
How long do you have to take the exam? On the cover page is a line for the due date. If the exam due date is blank the rule of thumb is seven days after the exam is given on campus. You should already know when exams are given by viewing the lectures or via the course syllabus. The amount of time you are allowed to take the exam is also listed on the cover page. Caution: The class instructor has the right to require you to take the exam the same day it is given to the on campus students.
Your proctor should submit completed exams according to the instructions on the cover page. The answers on your exam should be legible and written in dark pencil or ink. Do not write in the margins of your exam because exams returned via fax might not show the margins. Remember to put your name and UF ID number on each page of your exam and have your proctor keep a copy in case the exam is lost in the grading process. All un-graded exams go directly to the instructor or the teaching assistant for the course so if you want verifications of receipt of exam please contact the instructor.
Students should be aware that when taking the test they will be submitting their work under the honor code pledge required on all work submitted by all UF students. The pledge reads: "On my honor, I have neither given nor received unauthorized aid in doing this assignment." Students can learn more about the UF honor code at the UF Student Government website.
