Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

Q: >> I'm interested in exploring and maybe pursuing a degree through UF EDGE. How do I get started?
A: >> You can find most of the information you need online at UF EDGE and various UF websites. The best way to get started is to look over the information on the College of Engineering web site. Once you're there you can click on Students to learn about admissions and other general topics, or click on Departments to explore your department of interest. Review the graduate program, contact the Graduate Coordinator for advisement, and the Graduate Secretary for assistance with the Graduate Application process. Each department web site also contains the appropriate telephone and fax numbers, e-mail and postal addresses for additional lines of communication.

Q: >> Where else can I go to read up about UF graduate programs?
A: >> Your best source for information about a particular program is always the department's website. But for general information about the graduate experience at UF, you can check out the UF Graduate School website. More information about distance education at UF can be found at the UF distance learning site. Finally, you can find even more links relevant to the UF experience on our student resources page.

Q: >> The Registrar or the UF EDGE office has requested a readmission form. Why?
A: >>If you were previously admitted to UF as a post-bacc or graduate student and have not been continuously enrolled for two or more consecutive semesters (i.e., Fall and Spring/ Spring and Summer/ or Summer and Fall), you will need to re-establish your graduate status. Read this page from the UF admissions website for more information, then call your department to learn about any extra steps you may need to take for re-admissions to the department.

Q: >> I was told that I need a Gator1 Card (to check out library materials, etc.) - what is that and how do I get one?
A: >> The Gator1 card is UF's offcial ID card. Many services on campus (and some that affect distance students as well) are available only if you have a Gator1 Card. The easiest way to get your Gator1 Card is to stop by the Gator1 office in the student union on Museum Rd. (on the first floor just beneath the bookstore). For distance students, though, this isn't always an option. See this information from the Gator1 office for more on how to get your Gator1 Card at a distance. Once you get your card, you can manage almost every aspect of the card at the Gator1 Central website.

Q: >> I read/heard someone say that I am a "7EG" (or 8EG, etc) What does this mean?
A: >>This is an abbreviation used by UF to designate your class and college. If you are a graduate student, your classification will be 7EG, 8EG, or 9EG, depending upon how many credits you have earned toward your degree. If you are a Non-degree seeking student, your classification will be 0EG.
